Launch an Inaugural Event and Put it on the Map
Hurling is the national sport of Ireland with roots going back over 3,000 years. Often called, “the fastest sport on grass,” the game is played with passion in Ireland and across the Irish diaspora.
There are approximately 200 hurling clubs in North America concentrated in areas that received the highest number of Irish immigrants, cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and Vancouver, Canada.
The United States Gaelic Athletic Association (USGAA) the governing body of the sport with close ties to the Irish organization (GAA) wanted to put on a showcase of the best hurling clubs in the United States and Canada. To do this, they created an inaugural tournament called The North American Senior Hurling Challenge in Chicago.
To promote this premiere event, the USGAA contacted Favorite Nephew to design and produce a social media campaign to raise awareness of the event and drive viewership across its streaming channels.
Favorite Nephew designed and produced a series of dynamic social media posts leading up to the tournament. New content was regularly pushed live to build continuous momentum.
The result was social media engagement far beyond expectation. KPI numbers for the social media page began increasing with the first post. Streaming viewership of the games was the highest ever experienced by the USGAA.
Favorite Nephew put the USGAA in a position to leverage these positive results for the second annual challenge in 2025 which promises to expand to additional teams and reach an even wider audience.
